Kandla Port to ease vessel congestion to facilitate smooth edible oil import

Kandla Port (Deendayal) in Gujarat has promised to resolve vessel congestion difficulties and guarantee continuous supplies of edible oil.

Ongoing infrastructure projects include installation of new 14-inch pipelines and preparations to handle edible oil at two additional berths with dedicated pipelines.

Instead of relocating ships to outer anchorage for re-berthing, the port authorities decided to keep its current approach of applying penalty charges for delayed vessel discharges. This would result in reducing the expenses for importers.

Meanwhile, vessel agents have been encouraged to raise any concerns before ships arriving or during daily berthing meetings. It remains necessary to coordinate between importers and port officials to minimise delays when vessels dock.
