Southern Railway achieves 100 per cent automatic block signalling installation on Golden Quadrilateral routes

Southern Railway (SR) has become the first zone to achieve 100 per cent installation of automatic block signalling (ABS) on the golden quadrilateral/ golden diagonal routes. This includes the 134 km long Chennai-Renigunta and 141 km long Chennai-Arakkonam corridors.

With this, 58 dual multi-section digital axle counter (MSDAC) detection points, 33 new track sections (up and down), 19 automatic signals, and five auto location huts (ALHs) have been installed for real-time monitoring. This section is now equipped to support future upgrades, including migration to Kavach, long-term evolution for railway (LTE-R), and centralised traffic control (CTC).
