The government of Telangana (GoT) has accorded administrative sanction for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2B project. It is planned to be developed as a joint venture between the state and central governments.
The GoT will contribute Rs 58.74 billion (30 per cent) of the total cost, centre will contribute Rs 35.24 billion (18 per cent), and Rs 93.98 billion (48 per cent) will be funded via debt or loans from financial institutions like Japan International Cooperation Agency, Asian Development Bank, etc. Besides, public private partnership component will cover the remaining Rs 7.83 billion (4 per cent).
The project involves development of three new corridors that are, Jubilee Bus Station (JBS)-Medchal spanning 24.5 km and is an entirely elevated corridor with 18 stations in total. The JBS-Shameerpet corridor spans 22 km (20.35 km elevated and 1.65 underground) and has 14 stations in total. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA)-Future City corridor spans 39.6 km (1.6 km underground, 21 km elevated, and 17 km at grade). The total cost for these corridors stands at Rs 195.79 billion.
