Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata handled 11.25 million metric tonnes (mmt) of cargo during April–May period of FY 2025-26, a 27.56 per cent year-on-year (YoY) increase. Both its key terminals, Haldia Dock Complex and Kolkata Dock System, contributed significantly to this growth, with volumes rising by 27.45 per cent and 27.84 per cent, respectively.
The surge was broad-based, spanning petroleum products, coal, fertilisers, vegetable oil, fly ash, timber, pulses, foodgrains, and containers. Container throughput increased by 31.23 per cent to 153,037 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEUs) during April–May period of FY 2025-26, with Haldia witnessing an impressive 76 per cent rise and Kolkata Dock System achieving a 24 per cent gain. This uptrend comes despite heightened global geopolitical uncertainty, signalling robust momentum in eastern India’s trade logistics.
