Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways approves Chhara Port in Gujarat for LNG imports

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has approved Chhara Port in Gujarat for liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports by sea, authorising Simar Ports Private Limited (SPPL) to manage operations under Rule 16(1) of the Petroleum Rules, 2002.

The approval, valid from May 19, 2025, to May 18, 2028, comes amid rising demand for gas and petroleum and follows a broader notification in November 2024 permitting cargo handling of all goods at the port. All activities will adhere to the Navigational Safety at Ports Committee (NSPC) certification.
