Japan commences trial run of E3 series L67 Shinkansen bullet train for MAHSR Corridor Project

Japan has commenced trial runs of the E3 series L67 Shinkansen bullet train for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor Project in Sendai, Japan. The train is currently undergoing testing to assess its performance under India’s extreme climatic conditions. It is equipped with advanced inspection systems to evaluate temperature resilience, dust resistance, and driving conditions, among other factors. Designed to operate at a maximum speed of 320 km per hour (kmph), the E3 series is expected to be delivered to India, along with an E5 series Shinkansen train, by early 2026 via Niigata port.

After their arrival, Indian Railways will conduct trial runs of both the E5 and E3 Shinkansen trains on the 50 km long Surat-Bilimora section in Gujarat.
