NITI Aayog has planned to enhance rail container freight connectivity to the hinterland by inviting expressions of interest (Eol) for a study to identify challenges, formulate policies and provide strategies for the same. The study will analyse Indian Railways’ container freight pricing methodology and assess global container pricing models to identify the factors affecting modal share.
It will also provide policy-level suggestions for cargo consolidation (especially parcel) and less than container load (LCL) cargo, examine issues faced by inland container depots (ICDs), and container freight stations (CFSs), and assess the status of terminal handling facilities. Further, the study will analyse private container operations and identify critical issues faced by operators, among other aspects.
