Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) plans to commence production of India’s first bullet train prototype by September 2025 at its facility in Bengaluru. The project involves manufacturing two high speed, eight-car train sets worth Rs 8.66 billion. Reportedly, production of the first coach is likely to be completed by March 2026, after which tests such as the squeeze test and climatic chamber test will be conducted. Once approvals are obtained, 15 additional cars will be built.
The project is expected to be completed by December 2026. Following completion, oscillation and speed trials will be conducted on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor. Currently, the project is in the design stage.
