Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways to support development of Kollam Port in Kerala

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has expressed full support for the comprehensive development of Kollam Port in Kerala.

The central government has already provided financial assistance for upgrading the port to handle passenger, cargo, and luxury ships, as well as for launching a shipping service to Minicoy Island in Lakshadweep. However, since Kollam is a non-major port, its development is under the jurisdiction of the state government.

The MoPSW urged the Kerala Maritime Board to submit a proposal through the state government for inclusion under the Sagarmala project, which provides central funding for integrated port development.
