Larsen and Toubro Limited (L&T) has launched tunnel boring machines (TBMs) to construct 2.6 km twin tunnels from Kidderpore to Park Street under the Kolkata Metro Expansion project.
The TBMs would construct 1.7 km tunnel from St. Thomas to Victoria and then 950 metres from Victoria to Park Street. Besides, the line’s northern end from Park street to Esplanade will be constructed using cut and cover method.
The project involves expansion of the existing metro rail network in Kolkata in West Bengal by 88.55 km with an investment of Rs 193.94 billion. The expansion plan includes Joka to Benoy Badal Dinesh (BBD) Bagh-Diamond Park (18.72 km), Noapara to Barasat via Airport (Bimanbandar) (18.13 km), Airport to Kavi Subhas (New Garia) via Rajarhat (32 km), Baranagar to Barrackpore and Dakshineswar (14.5 km), and Dum Dum to Baranagar (5.2 km).
