The government of Uttar Pradesh has instructed the Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department to prepare a detailed project report to implement the vision of ‘Aviral Nirmal Gomti’ by June 2025. Besides, sewer and stormwater drainage are expected to be managed separately with a focused assurance of zero liquid discharge.
Similar action plans will be designed for other rivers in Uttar Pradesh like the Hindon river in Ghaziabad and the Varuna river in Varanasi. The progress of the plans is planned to be monitored on a regular basis. The river rejuvenation programmes will be carried out with a special emphasis on public participation and the divisional commissioners will be responsible for their implementation.
