In an effort to strengthen India’s economy through road infrastructure development, the centre has announced plans to invest Rs 10 trillion to transform 25,000–30,000 km of two-lane highways into four-lane.
The goal, according to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), is to now complete road projects worth Rs 5–6 trillion every year.
In line with the goal of increasing road construction, the government is also striving to update the BOT model (annuity). This is expected to result in better maintenance and quality of roads in India.
