The Railway Board (RB) has directed the Golden Rock railway workshop (Ponmalai GoC) at Tiruchchirappalli, under the Southern Railway (SR) zone, to carry out maintenance and overhauling works for the Vande Bharat trains, including Vande Bharat sleeper variants. This includes major schedules (SS-I) maintenance, covering primary, secondary, and major maintenance of the trains, along with monitoring of wheels and axles, over a period of 15 years.
In tune with this, the GOC has planned to establish an upgraded facility with the capacity to handle a total of 24 rakes. The facility will cover an area of 30 acres within its campus and is estimated to cost Rs 3 billion. Approval for its construction will be sent to the headquarters soon.
