On April 29, 2025, the Government of Maharashtra approved the Shipbuilding, Ship Repair and Ship Recycling Policy, 2025. The policy targets Rs 66 billion investment and 40,000 jobs by 2030, rising to Rs 180 billion investment and 330,000 jobs by 2047. It also provides capital subsidy of 15 per cent of project cost, up to Rs 10 million for skill development per project, up to Rs 250 million for research and development support.
The plan includes the establishment of marine shipyard clusters, development of shipbuilding and recycling facilities, and provision of supportive infrastructure such as roads, power, and water.
