Trial runs conducted on Porur-Mullaithottam stretch under Chennai Metro Phase II project

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) commenced trial runs on the Porur-Mullaithottam stretch under the Chennai Metro Rail Phase II project on April 28, 2025. Earlier, the trial runs were conducted on the Mullaithottam-Poonamallee stretch in March 2025.

The trial runs are likely to assess safety and passenger comfort standards which is a pre-requisite for commissioning the stretch.

The project involves development of 118.9-km of three metro corridors (Corridor III, IV and V) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of Rs 632.46 billion. It is mostly underground with an elevated section confined to a few short stretches and consists of 128 stations in total.
