Kerala Maritime Board to redevelop the minor port at Vizhinjam

The Kerala Maritime Board is set to redevelop the minor port at Vizhinjam into a commercial facility under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The project is expected to receive approval in May 2025.

This redevelopment project aims to upgrade the existing 160-metre wharf to accommodate small and mid-sized ships, including cruise vessels, passenger ferries, and container ships.

The government of Kerala has also approved the construction of a new fishing harbour near the Vizhinjam International Seaport at a cost of Rs 2.71 billion, based on designs by the Central Water and Power Research Station.
