Tunnel boring machine (TBM) T62 has achieved its first and final breakthrough at the Airport shaft colony under Package CA-48 of the Mumbai Metro Line 7A (Andheri East- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA)). It was commissioned in September 2023 at CSMIA Terminal 2 and travelled for 1.65 km till the Airport colony ramp.
The Package CA-48 involves construction of2.49 km long down-line tunnel on CSIA’s Terminal 2-Airport Colony station stretch and onwards to a ramp on the Western Express Highway (WEH). J. Kumar Infraprojects Limited was awarded the contract for the same in September 2019.
The Mumbai Metro Line 7A is the extension of Line 7, which will connect Andheri East to CSMIA. It will be 3.42 km long, of which 2.49 km will be underground.
