The Government of Maharashtra is likely to provide additional funding of Rs 6.83 billion for the construction of two additional stations Bibewadi and Balajinagar under the Swargate-Katraj Metro project. With this, the cost of the project has been revised from Rs 29.54 billion to Rs 36.37 billion. Additionally, the project is likely to be developed in two phases with Phase I involving the construction of Market Yard, Padmavati and Katraj stations and Phase II involving Balajinagar and Bibewadi stations.
The project involves the extension of Corridor 1 (Pimpri-Chinchwad-Swargate) of the Pune Metro Phase I from Swargate to Katraj. The 5.46 km long metro route will be implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro).
