Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) has conducted fire safety inspections on the 2.6 km Esplanade-Sealdah stretch under the Kolkata East West Metro project. The inspections are a prerequisite for the final inspections by the Commissioner of Rail Safety (CRS).
Besides, the union government is likely to inaugurate the stretch on April 24, 2025.
The project involves construction and operation of a 16.6 km long metro connecting Sector 5, Salt Lake in Kolkata to Howrah Maidan through an underwater metro track at an estimated cost of Rs 100 billion in West Bengal.
