The construction work on the Bangalore Cantonment-Whitefield Third/ Fourth Railway Line Project is likely to be completed by December 2025.
The project involves quadrupling of the existing 25 km long Bangalore-Whitefield railway line along with a provision of two additional lines (one on either end) in Karnataka with an investment of Rs 4,928.7 million. It was initially sanctioned in the year 1997-98, but was later dropped due to non-viability. However, it was again sanctioned in the Railway Budget 2018-19 by the Ministry of Railways (MoR) in order to meet the requirements of suburban traffic.
