Indian Railways (IR) has generated a total revenue of Rs 2.78 trillion and incurred an expenditure of Rs 2.75 trillion during 2024-25 (till February 2025). Additionally, IR is expected to achieve cumulative freight traffic of 1.6 billion tonnes during the financial year (FY) 2024-25.
As part of its sustainability initiatives, the sector aims to achieve Scope 1 Net Zero by 2025 and Scope 2 Net Zero by 2030.
