Tunnel Boring Machine S63B achieves first breakthrough at Vasant Kunj station under Delhi metro project phase IV

Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) S63B achieved its first breakthrough at Vasant Kunj station for package DC-08 under the Delhi metro project phase IV on March 6, 2025.

It was commissioned at Kishangarh station in October 2023 and travelled for 1,550 metres till Vasant Kunj station.

Package DC-08 involves design and construction of twin tunnel (up and down line) by shield TBM, cut and cover tunnel box and four underground stations namely Aerocity, Mahipalpur, Vasant Kunj and Kishangarh with entry/exits and connecting subways from chainage -0.76 km to 5.35 km of Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor. It was awarded to J Kumar Infraprojects Limited in March 2022.

Delhi metro project phase IV involves development of a 112.4 km long metro rail network comprising six corridors with an investment of Rs 468 billion. The three corridors to be developed on priority basis are Maujpur-Mukundpur (12.31 km), Janakpuri West-RK Ashram (29.26 km) and Aerocity-Tughlakabad (23.62 km). Whereas the other three corridors approved in 2024 by the central government are Inderlok-Indraprastha (12.37 km), Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block (8.38 km) and Rithala-Narela-Kundli (26.46 km).
