Maharashtra cabinet grants administrative approval for Deharji dam water supply project in Palghar, Maharashtra

The Maharashtra cabinet has granted administrative approval for the implementation of the Deharji dam water supply project in Palghar district, Maharashtra. The project, being implemented by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), aims to develop a dam on the Deharji river having a capacity of 95.6 million litres per day (mld). Of this, 69.42 mld will be utilised for providing water supply to the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation area and other areas within the MMRDA jurisdiction. It is expected to benefit around 4 million people. The cost of the project has increased to Rs 25.99 billion from Rs 14.44 billion in 2019. The additional cost will be provided by MMRDA.
