In a notable development, the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority has signed a tripartite agreement with GAIL and BPCL for the production of compressed biogas (CBG) from urban solid waste generated by six municipal corporations in the state. As part of the agreement, GAIL will establish CBG plants in Ambikapur, Raigarh and Korba, while BPCL will implement the project in the Bilaspur, Dhamtari and Rajnandgaon municipal corporations. GAIL and BPCL are expected to invest approximately Rs 6 billion. The initiative aims to process approximately 350 mt of solid waste and 500 mt of surplus biomass daily from these corporations to produce around 70 mt of CBG per day.
