Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed preparation of a detailed project report (DPR) for the Kokrajhar-Gelephu New Railway Line Project.
The project involves laying of a 69.04 km broad gauge line connecting India’s Assam with Bhutan. The estimated cost of this project is Rs 35 billion. In January 2005, Bhutan and India had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to connect Bhutan with the Indian railways network. Five corridors including Kokrajhar to Gelephu were identified.
