India and Sri Lanka to sign MoU on critical minerals, exploration and mining

India and Sri Lanka are set to formalise an agreement on cooperation in mineral exploration and mining, focusing on securing critical minerals essential for economic and industrial development.

A high-level meeting between the two countries was held in New Delhi to discuss the finalisation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on “Cooperation in the Field of Geology and Mineral Resources.” The proposed MoU aims to create a structured framework for collaboration in mineral exploration, advanced mineral processing, and capacity building.  India’s National Critical Mineral Mission was also discussed as part of the broader cooperation framework. The Geological Survey of India expressed interest in conducting mineral assessments in Sri Lanka, while Sri Lanka sought India’s support in attracting Indian companies to explore and develop its mineral assets. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to accelerating the finalization of the MoU, which will enhance government-to-government collaboration, promote investment opportunities, and contribute to mutual economic growth and sustainability in the mineral sector.
