Indian Railways (IR) plans to roll out a total of 17,500 general non-air conditioned (AC) coaches, 200 Vande Bharat trains, 100 Amrit Bharat trains, and 50 Namo Bharat rapid rail (or Vande metro) by 2027-28.
Further, IR aims to establish a high-speed rail network stretching 7,000 km, capable of supporting trains running at speeds of 250 km per hour (kmph) by 2047. Meanwhile, IR targets achieving 100 per cent electrification and 1.6 billion tonnes of freight loading by the end of 2025-26.
