As per reports, the Vizhinjam deep-water transshipment port has achieved a significant milestone by handling 0.3 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEUs) of throughput during its six-month trial run. During this period, 150 ships, including five of the world’s largest container vessels, docked at the port. In January 2025, the port handled 85,000 TEUs from 45 ships.
The trial operations of the port began in July 2024. It has received a commercial commissioning certificate on December 4, 2024.
