Centre allocates Rs 13.38 billion for Chennai-Bengaluru-Vellore Highway Project

The central government has announced a Rs 13.38 billion project to construct a 28-km access-controlled highway in Tamil Nadu. Designed to enhance traffic flow, the highway will include a four-lane main carriageway with paved shoulders, complemented by two-lane service roads on both sides. Key features of the project include a 10-km bypass around Walajapet and Ranipet to reduce congestion in these towns, alongside safety enhancements such as four major bridges and two railway over-bridges. The corridor will significantly improve connectivity between Chennai and major cities like Bengaluru, Tirupati and Vellore. It will also benefit Vellore, home to the renowned Christian Medical College, by providing better access for patients, professionals and visitors.
