Andhra Pradesh government commences land acquisition for Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam metro projects

The government of Andhra Pradesh has commenced land acquisition for Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam metro projects. About 96.19 acres of land is likely to be acquired for the Vijayawada metro project and the acquisition is likely to be completed by July 2025.

Additionally, the state government has requested 100 per cent funding for both projects from the union government.

The Visakhapatnam metro project involves development of a 46.23 km network in the state. It will span across three corridors namely, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to Kommadi (corridor 1, 34.40 km), Gurudwara Junction to Old Post Office (corridor 2, 5.08 km), Thatichetlapalem to China Waltair (corridor 3, 6.75 km). The project entails an investment of Rs 114.98 billion.

The Vijayawada metro project involves the development of a 38.40 km network. It will span across two corridors i.e corridor 1A (Gannavaram-PNBS) and corridor 1B (PNBS-Penamaluru). The project entails an investment of Rs 110.09 billion.
