The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has granted stage II forest clearance for diversion of 594.61 hectares (ha) of forest land for the 68 km section of the Khurda Road-Bolangir New Line Project.
The project involves construction of a 289 km long broad gauge railway line from Khurda Road to Bolangir under Khurda division of East Coast Railway, aiming at connecting Western Odisha with Eastern Odisha at an estimated cost of Rs 37.91 billion.
