Metro Railway, Kolkata conducted full-fledged trial runs on the 7.04 km Noapara-Airport stretch under the Kolkata metro expansion project on January 24, 2025. The maiden trial runs on the stretch were earlier conducted in December 2024. The stretch is likely to be operational by June 2025.
The project involves expansion of the existing metro rail network in Kolkata, West Bengal by 88.55 km with an investment of Rs 193.94 billion. The expansion plan includes Joka to Benoy Badal Dinesh (BBD) Bagh-Diamond Park (18.72 km), Noapara to Barasat via Airport (Bimanbandar) (18.13 km), Airport to Kavi Subhas (New Garia) via Rajarhat (32 km), Baranagar to Barrackpore and Dakshineswar (14.5 km), and Dum Dum to Baranagar (5.2 km).
