Northern Railway has conducted a trial run on the Katra-Budgam section under the Jammu-Udhampur-Katra-Qazigund-Baramulla New Rail Line Project.
The project involves laying of 345 km long new railway line joining the Kashmir Valley with Indian Railways (IR) network from Jammu to Baramulla via Udhampur, Katra and Qazigund with an investment of Rs 425 billion. It is expected to provide an alternative and a reliable transportation system to Jammu and Kashmir.
