TBM S-1410A passes factory acceptance tests under Kolkata metro expansion project 

Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) S-1410A has passed the factory acceptance tests (FATs) for package UG1 under the Kolkata metro expansion project for the Joka-Esplanade corridor.

Package UG-1 involves design and construction of the ramp and underground metro railway works from Mominpur (excluding) to Esplanade, 5.05 km (from chainage 9,063.00 metres to 14,113.00 metres) including four underground stations (viz. Khidderpore, Victoria, Park Street and Esplanade), tunnels by TBM and cut and cover method, architectural finishing works, track works, etc. in connection with the Joka-Esplanade metro corridor. Larsen and Toubro Limited (L&T) was awarded the package in June 2023.

The project involves the expansion of the existing metro rail network in Kolkata, West Bengal by 88.55 km with an investment of Rs 193.94 billion. The expansion plan includes Joka to BBD Bagh-Diamond Park (18.72 km), Noapara to Barasat via Airport (Biman Bandar) (18.13 km), Airport to Kavi Subhas (New Garia) via Rajarhat (32 km), Baranagar to Barrackpore and Dakshineswar (14.5 km), Dum Dum to Baranagar (5.2 km).
