Centre lays foundation stone, inaugurates various rail projects in Andhra Pradesh 

The Union Government has laid the foundation stone for six railway projects in Andhra Pradesh. These are:

  • Guntur-Bibinagar Railway Line Doubling Project: It involves doubling of the existing 239 km Guntur-Bibinagar rail line with an investment of Rs 32.38 billion in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
  • Mahbubnagar-Dhone section of the Akola-Dhone Railway Line Doubling Project: It involves doubling of an existing 626 km rail line between Akola and Dhone via Purna, Mudhkhed, Secunderabad, Mehboobnagar including Dhone byepass at an estimated cost of Rs 62.6 billion in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, respectively.
  • Gooty-Pendekallu Rail Doubling Project: It involves doubling of the existing 31.5 km long Gooty-Pendekallu rail line in Andhra Pradesh at an estimated cost of Rs 3,518 million. This project will ease train movements, improve operational efficiency and provide opportunities to introduce more trains in this section.
  • Vadlapudi-Gate Junction Cabin Third and Fourth Rail Line including Gangavaram Port-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Tie Rail Line Project: It involves construction of a 12.04 km third and fourth rail line between Vadlapudi-Gate Jn. Cabin including Tie line between Gangavaram Port-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
  • Duvvada-Simhachalam North Third and Fourth Rail Line Project: It involves construction of a 20.54 km third and fourth rail line from Duvvada station to Simhachalam North station in Andhra Pradesh. It was sanctioned at a cost of Rs 3.02 billion.
  • Visakhapatnam-Gopalapatnam Third and Fourth Rail Line Project: It involves construction of a 15.3 km long third and fourth rail line from Visakhapatnam to Gopalapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. It was sanctioned at a cost of Rs 1.59 billion.

Besides, the centre inaugurated various railway sections too. These are:

  • Giddalur-Diguvametta section of the Guntur-Guntakal Railway Line Doubling Project: It involves construction of a 401.47-km double railway line with electrification between Guntur-Guntakal in Andhra Pradesh at an investment of Rs 38.87 billion. It will be funded through cost sharing of 50:50 by Andhra Pradesh government and Ministry of Railway (MoR).
  • Vijayawada-Gudivada-Bhimavaram-Narasapur, Gudiva Da-Machilipatnam and Bhimavaram-Nidadavolu Lines Doubling Project: It involved doubling and electrification of the Vijaywada-Gudivada-Bhimavaram-Narasapur, Gudivada-Machilipatnam and Bhimavaram-Nidadavolu lines, spanning a total of 221 km in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Gooty-Dharmavaram Doubling-cum-Electrification Project: It involved doubling along with electrification of a 90.2 km rail line between Gooty and Dharmavaram in Andhra Pradesh. It was implemented by RITES Limited on turnkey basis at an estimated cost of Rs 9.98 billion.
