V. O. Chidambaranar Port handled 373,393 tonnes of edible oil (297,132 tonnes of palm oil and 76,261 tonnes of sunflower oil) during April to December period of FY 2024-25. This is an increase of 20.75 per cent as compared to the corresponding period of FY 2023-24 when the port handled 309,229 tonnes of edible oil.
V. O. Chidambaranar Port also provides land to support various port-based industries. One of the key beneficiaries, Kaleesuwari Agro Industries Private Limited, has established a refinery plant and storage tanks on port land. Crude edible oil, sourced from other countries such as South Korea, is refined, stored and packaged here for domestic consumption.
Other key commodities handled by the port are coal, containers, limestone, windmill blades and accessories, fertilisers, raw materials and construction materials.
