The Government of Tamil Nadu laid the foundation stone for the implementation of the underground drainage (UGD) project in Madurai on January 12, 2025.
The scope of project includes construction of 500 km of UGD network, 20 lifting stations, nine pumping stations, 79,227 household connections across 31 wards with North Vaigai covering 16 wards and South Vaigai covering 15 wards at an estimated cost of Rs 4,710 million.
Besides, Rs 32,000 million has been allocated for the development of a drinking water supply scheme in Madurai.
