Mumbai’s Reay Road cable-stayed bridge set to open in February 2025

Mumbai’s Reay Road cable-stayed bridge is expected to be completed by February 2025. Built entirely on land, this 385-meter structure including two ramps, is the city’s first cable-stayed bridge of its kind. The six-lane bridge, equipped with pedestrian footpaths, offers seamless connectivity between Barrister Nath Pai Road and the Eastern Freeway.

Constructed under the supervision of Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (MahaRail), the project began in February 2022. Initially budgeted at Rs 1.45 billion, the cost escalated to Rs 1.75 billion. Its innovative design, featuring a central pylon system with stay cables, significantly minimised foundation work, thereby reducing disruptions to underground utilities, ensuring smoother traffic flow during construction, and preserving the integrity of the surrounding infrastructure.
