Tunnel boring machine (TBM) S718 has recently achieved a final breakthrough at Agra College station for package AGCC-02 under the Agra metro rail project phase-I.
It was commissioned at Raja ki Mandi station in November 2024 and travelled for 535 metres till Agra College station.
Package AGCC-02 involves design and construction of tunnel from the start of the underground ramp (near Fatehabad road metro station) to the end of the ramp after RBS metro station including seven underground metro stations (Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Jama Masjid, S.N. Medical College, Agra College, Raja ki Mandi and RBS College) including architectural finishes, electrical and mechanical, tunnel ventilation system, environmental control system, etc. on corridor-1. The joint venture (JV) of Afcons Infrastructure Limited and SAM India Builtwell Private Limited were awarded the contract for the same.
The Agra metro project involves development of 30 km long metro rail system in the city at an investment of Rs 83.79 billion.
