Indian Railways deploys 5,133 km of optical fibre for KAVACH till November 2024 

Indian Railways (IR) has deployed 5,133 km of optical fibre, for KAVACH system, till November 2024. Further, the progress on KAVACH, till November 2024, includes the installation of 540 telecom towers, 3,434 route km (rkm) of track side equipment, and provision of KAVACH in 707 locomotives and 523 stations. The cost for provision of track side including station equipment of KAVACH is about Rs 5 million per km and the cost for provision of KAVACH equipment on locomotives is about Rs 8 million per locomotive.

Besides, IR has planned to deploy KAVACH on a total of 10,000 locomotives and has prepared 69 loco sheds for the same. Also, bids have already been invited for track side works of KAVACH covering 15,000 rkm.
