The centre has granted in-principle approval for the National Highway Authority’s (NHAI) cloverleaf design for the Vizhinjam-National Highway (NH)-66 four-lane port road connectivity project. This design aims to streamline connectivity between the port and NH 66. Further, for interim connectivity, the NHAI has assured there will be no hurdles for container trucks using the vehicular underpass.
The government of Kerala is likely to consider land acquisition recommendations for the project in the next cabinet meeting. The project involves the construction of a road to provide permanent connectivity to Vizhinjam Port in Kerala, which will connect to NH-66 at Thalakode. The project is expected to be completed in three years.
