On December 5, 2024, the Rajya Sabha passed the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024, in a move to replace the Aircraft Act 1934.
The Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024 aims to strengthen the regulatory framework in India, enhance the domestic manufacturing capabilities in aviation, and promote the ease of doing business. It also ensures that the aviation standards in the country are at par with the global best, by ensuring that they are aligned with international conventions.
The Lok Sabha previously passed the same in August 2024. The old Aircraft Act 1934 was amended multiple times, which brought out the need to address ambiguities experienced by stakeholders and remove redundancies.
