The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has announced a Rs 2 billion plan to construct a 2.50 km tunnel road within the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) premises. The project, expected to be completed within three years, aims to provide an alternative access route to the airport, significantly easing traffic congestion in Bengaluru’s eastern regions, including Whitefield.
The four-lane tunnel, passing beneath an active apron and connecting to the terminal, is designed to reduce travel time by 30 minutes for commuters from eastern Bengaluru. Additionally, it is expected to alleviate traffic on the Hebbal route by 30 per cent, further decongesting the area.
