Indian Railway achieves electrification of 64,285 rkm till November 1, 2024

Indian Railway has achieved electrification on 64,285 route km (rkm) of its networks, till November 1, 2024. This is 96.78 per cent of its cumulative broad gauge (BG) network of 66,423 rkm. Further, the pace of electrification has increased from about 1.42 kilometres (km) per day, during 2004-14, to about 19.7 km per day, during 2023-24.

Besides, Northeast Frontier Railway has achieved electrification on 2,827.74 rkm of its networks, till November 28, 2024, which is around 66 per cent of its total network. The zone achieved electrification on 1,401.46 rkm in Assam, 935.94 rkm in West Bengal, 318.87 rkm in Bihar, and 151.58 rkm in Tripura.
