During October 2024, the Indian major ports handled 68.22 million tonnes (mt) of cargo traffic, compared to 70.46 mt in October 2023, registering a decline of 3.18 per cent. Port-wise, the Deendayal Port handled the maximum cargo at 11.92 mt during October 2024, followed by Paradip Port (11.76 mt) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port (7.62 mt).
The overseas cargo handled at the major ports decreased by 5.5 per cent from 55.32 mt during October 2023 to 52.28 mt during October 2024. Meanwhile, the coastal cargo handled at the major ports increased by 5.3 per cent from 15.14 mt during October 2023 to 15.94 mt during October 2024.
