According to the government, the fleet of domestic airlines is likely to rise by 600, to reach a fleet of 1,400 in the next five years. The fleet size currently stands at around 800 aircraft.
Notable aircraft orders have been placed by carriers including IndiGo and Air India.
Additionally, the number of airports in the country has risen over the past 10 years from 74 to 157 currently. The number of passengers has also increased to around 220 million.21
