Vizhinjam Port handled a record throughput of more than 0.1 million twenty-foot equivalents units (TEUs) of container and welcomed 46 ships during the past four months. The trial operations of the port began in July 2024 with the successful berthing of a mothership named San Fernando.
The project involves construction of a greenfield, deepwater international container transshipment terminal at Vizhinjam in Kerala on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis for a concession period of 40 years. The port will be formally commissioned in December 2024.
