The Ministry of Railways has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility on the rail infrastructure sector, which includes both conventional and high-speed rail on, October 28, 2024.
The MoU highlights cooperation in the field of planning, design, development, safety, train maintenance, railway facilities and equipment covering long-distance routes (for both conventional and high-speed rail), and the integration of services that circulate on them through interoperability, making traffic possible on different track gauges, and optimising the profit from investments in the high-speed sectors, among others. It also supports the selection, deployment and integration process of on-board and ground-based equipment of the European Rail Traffic Management System as well as management of railway operations and railway traffic.
With this, both the countries will collaborate on technological development, pilot projects, research, and organising conferences, trainings and exchange programme for experts. Besides, the MoU will be valid for five years and will be automatically renewed every year.
