Centre approves Rs 8.72 billion worth Jaisalmer-Myazlar-Sundra Bharatmala Road project near Desert National Park

The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has approved the 137 km Jaisalmer-Myazlar-Sundra road under the Bharatmala project. The decision was made during the National Wildlife Board’s standing committee meeting.

Initially estimated at Rs 3.90 billion, the project’s cost escalated to Rs 8.72 billion after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) invested Rs 5 million in a survey by the Wildlife Institute of India to address concerns raised by the Desert National Park (DNP). The approved road will span 100 km from Jaisalmer to Myazlar and 37 km from Sundra in Barmer district to Myazlar. The green light also permits the resumption of stalled mobile tower installations within the DNP area, improving connectivity along this sensitive border stretch.
