Indian Railway launched its first pair of WAP-5 aerodynamic (converted) electric locomotives from the test shed of the Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW). These locomotives will be used in Amrit Bharat trains by integrating them with the Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) rakes at the Integral Coach Factory.
Besides, for 2024-25, CLW has set a target to convert a total of 55 pairs of existing WAP-5 locomotives to push-pull compliant variant with one-side aerodynamic cab. The new variant will consist of features like impact resistant windshield, real-time information system, remote monitoring system, and installation of KAVACH 4.0, among others.
